Mötley Crüe are currently touring Australia as co-headliners with KISS on their Monster Tour .The veteran rockers have already completed more than of their schedule, with just four dates left in Sydney, Brisbane, and Mackay.

Now, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has revealed that the Monster Tour could well be one of the last Australian visits from the veteran hair metal band, saying that the group plans to release one more album and tour before officially splitting.

Speaking in a backstage interview with Street Press Australia, the 54-year-old Sixx confirmed that Mötley Crüe’s plans to work on a new album and a potential soundtrack to the movie adaptation of their bestselling autobiography and essential music fan read, The Dirt: Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band; following that, the band hang up their instruments for good.

“I wanna finish our movie and put out a new album,” said Sixx, adding they would do a “farewell tour… We’ll be back in Australia and, ah, that’ll be it.”

“I can honourably say, ‘We did it our way and we’re never coming back’,” added the bassist, and unlike other bands that give a final farewell only to come out of retirement again (something their current tourmates KISS are especially guilty of), Sixx noted that a split would be permanent.

“It’s important that when you do a farewell tour that people understand that when you put a bullet in the back of the horse’s head, and it goes down, it’s not a plastic bullet it’s a fucking shotgun blast,” said Sixx. “You know, blow its fucking brains out, it’s never coming back. It has to [be that way].”

“It’s the only way I can look at myself in the mirror and do a farewell tour,” he continued. “That’s it. So when we take our final bow, it’s IT. I will cry. I cry thinking about it.”“I can honourably say, ‘We did it our way and we’re never coming back.’” – Nikki Sixx, Mötley Crüe

Despite various lineup changes and withering interpersonal relations, the original Mötley Crüe lineup, of Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars and frontman Vincent Neil reunited for their 2004 Carnival Of Sins tour. The quartet have been touring extensively ever since, finding time in 2008 to release a new album in Saints Of Los Angeles, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard charts and sold nearly 100,000 copies in its first week.

An end to the band would draw a curtain spanning over 30 years and nine albums. “I love this band. I fucking spent my life doing this band,” said Sixx, who was a founding member of Mötley Crüe in 1980 along with drummer Tommy Lee.

“I’ve been doing this band longer than I’ve been doing anything else,” he added. “And I’ve been in this band longer than I’ve known any woman, longer than I’ve known my children – only my family, and I have a closer relationship with my band than I have with my family, and a rockier relationship with my band than I’ve had with anybody in my family as well.”

“So it’s very emotional and I just think it’s important that we finish what we started and then, you know, it will be whatever it will be. It could be beautiful. It could be a beautiful ending!” says the musician.

“I’ll leave you with this: when you go and see a great fucking movie and it ends and you go, ‘Fuck!’ like, you walk out and you go, ‘That was amazing! That blew my mind!’ It’s not like, ‘That blew my mind and, um, maybe there’ll be a sequel to it’.”
