My Bloody Valentine fans are some of the most dedicated in all of the shoegaze genre, so it’s pretty understandable that any hint of new music from the veteran Irish act would send the music world into meltdown.

As Pitchfork notes, it was announced earlier today that My Bloody Valentine frontman Kevin Shields is set to play Sigur Rós’ Norður og Niður festival in December, alongside artists such as Pulp’s Jarvis Jocker, Dan Deacon, and Julianna Barwick.

However, the biggest news from the fstival seemed to be hidden away in the artist biography section of the website, where news of a new My Bloody Valentine album was teased.

On Kevin Shields’ biography section, it outlines his musical and production history, but it also gives an update as to what Shields has been doing lately.

“Kevin is currently finishing an all analog vinyl version of Loveless and Isn’t Anything,” the profile reads, referring to remastered editions of My Bloody Valentine’s 1988 and 1991 record, “And is also working on material for a new My Bloody Valentine album to be released in 2018.”

Check out a screenshot of the biography below, just in case the premature announcement gets deleted.

Artist bio for My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields

Of course, a sudden album announcement wouldn’t exactly be out of character for My Bloody Valentine. Folks may remember how back in 2013, the band decided to drop their third record, m b v, with almost no warning, after keeping fans waiting for 22 years.

At this stage, there has been no official confirmation of a new record from My Bloody Valentine’s camp, but it wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done something like this. So at this stage, we might just need to sit back and wait.

My Bloody Valentine were last in Australia back in 2013, so who knows if this potential new album will result in another tour for the experimental-rock legends. Of course, with veteran shoegaze act Slowdive being announced for next year’s Laneway Festival, there are plenty of fans who might just be hanging out for hell of a double-header tour.
