The kind of music someone listens to is as important as the company they keep it seems after a music-based internet dating site has uncovered some truths about what bands to steer clear of if you ever want to do the horizontal tango again.

Tastebuds.fm, a site that matches people based on their location and musical tastes, recently did a survey of their users asking each of them to name 12 musical acts that turned them off. The biggest turn off was Nickelback who scored a whopping 13% of total votes, which is unsurprising given that Nickelback makes us what to cut our ears off, much less jump into the sack with someone.

Justin Bieber followed closely behind proving that although Canadians can be sexy there is a lot to be answered for in regards to their musical contribution to the world. Yeah, we’re looking at you Celine Dion. Although Tastebuds.fm is quick to point out that both Nickelback and Bieber ranked as the top two turnoffs for Canadian users too so at least they’re aware.

The rest of the list featured Lady Gaga in third, Ke$ha fourth and Coldplay in fifth place. U2, Creed, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne and Britney Spears rounded out the rest of the Top 10.

When comparing male versus female the result are pretty closely aligned but there are differences. Girls were more turned off by female acts, such as Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Miley Cyrus. Do we detect a wiff of jealously perhaps coming from the girls camp?

Guys on the other hand were turned off by a range of acts the ladies didn’t even mention including Oasis, Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon, Eminem and Kanye West. So ladies don’t try to earn any cred by listing of a bunch of band names. And definitely don’t mention Nickelback. Ever.
