With next year marking the 50th anniversary of The Beach Boys as a band, Mike Love reckons the surviving members will put aside years of legal wrangling to reunite. Love tours under the name the Beach Boys with no other original members every year, while the other remaining member besides Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, tours with Wilson’s band. He told the Las Vegas Sun “Now we’re gearing up for the 50th anniversary, and Brian Wilson, who has been working on some unfinished Gershwin music project, will rejoin us. I’m sad that [Beach Boys co-founder] Carl Wilson passed away 11, 12 years ago from the same lung cancer problem that claimed the life of George Harrison. That was not a fun time for us. But I am happy that now my son Christian is in the group.” The other founding member, Dennis Wilson, drowned in 1983. It’s all to be taken at arm’s length however, as there has been so much fighting over the Beach Boys name between he and Wilson that it would take a heroic effort to overcome their legal differences.
