The classic West Coast pop/rock band Fleetwood Mac are one of music’s greats, their woolly history includes a multitude of line-up changes, endless inter-band affairs and romances and even some tragedy (including the recent suicide of former guitarist, Bob Welch), but is the lasting critical and commercial success of their musical legacy that remains their most influential contribution.

A new compilation of Fleetwood Mac covers, featuring a start-studded line-up including the likes of Best Coast, The Kills, MGMT, Washed Out, Antony ‘And The Johnsons’ Hegarty, Lykke Li and many more, is a fitting tribute to the great band.

Paste reports that the collection, entitled Just Tell Me That You Want Me, will be released in September and collects fifteen separate covers of Fleetwood Mac tracks both familiar and more obscure, in an eclectic mix of high-profile artists.

On the popular front, fellow West Coast act Best Coast – who have previously covered Mac’s “Storms” in live performances – will be offering their rendition of “Rhiannon”, while The Kills will be putting their angular, brooding take on “Dreams”. MGMT will be putting their psychedelic spin on “Future Games”, with Antony Hegarty contributing a version of “Landslide”.

Other inclusions on the all-star tracklisting include a special collaboration between Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis and Sonic Youth drummer, Lee Ranaldo; the 90s rock pioneers pairing up for a cover of Peter Green’s guitar instrumental “Albatross”. Notable inclusions from Marianne Faithful (tackling “Angel”), Washed Out (performing “Straight Back”), Lykke Li (doing “Silver Springs”) and even ZZ Top guitar maestro Billy Gibbons (covering “Oh Well”) are featured on the tribute record.

The album was produced Randall Poster and Gelya Robb, best known for assembling the Rave On Buddy Holly tribute last year, which featured an equally impressive lineup of The Black Keys, Paul McCartney and Lou Reed. In a press release for the new Fleetwood Mac tribute, Poster says “The story of Fleetwood Mac has always intrigued me… we’ve tried to tell that story through the arc of music we’ve recorded. Working with some of our favorite artists and performers.”
