2013 is already looking to a banner year for album releases, with new records from Nick Cave & The Bad SeedsYeah Yeah Yeahs, The Knife, and The Drones on the way, long-awaited albums from My Bloody Valentine, a swathe of material from Pond, and David Bowie’s first new album in a decade.

Here’s one more to add to the list, with confirmation that legendary French house duo Daft Punk are set to drop their fourth studio album (five if you include the Tron: Legacy soundtrack) sometime in May, according to The Guardian.

The new album will mark Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s first new material in nearly three years, discounting the mix they crafted for a Parisian fashion show last October; a 15 minute track that heavily sampled blues artist Junior Kimbrough they put together for friend and designer, Yves Saint Laurent’s new creative director, Hedi Slimane.

It’s unlikely that electro-blues mix will feature on the new Daft Punk album, which is still shrouded in delicious enigma, but reports of the highly-anticipated record featuring some intriguing collaborators has more than piqued the curiosity for the electronic music-makers’ latest. The as-yet-untitled follow up to 2005’s Human After All, will arrive courtesy of [Sony owned] Columbia Records.

Previous reports confirmed that Nile Rodgers, of Chic fame had been “just jamming” at his house with the French pair, while influential Italian producer Georgia Moroder had both been hit up for his services to record a spoken-word monologue-come-rap for the forthcoming LP.

The Guardian also points out that the record could feature Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Paul Williams – best known for penning the Kermit The Frog hit ‘The Rainbow Connection’ – had been roped in to write some lyrics for the Gallic DJs, while rumours of Feist collaborator Chilly Gonzales and Animal Collective’s Panda Bear have also been linked.

The as-yet-untitled follow up to 2005’s Human After All, will arrive courtesy of Columbia Records, the electronic duo’s first release for their new record label following 17 years at EMI’s Virgin Records.

Billboard confirms that Daft Punk signed their new deal to Sony, under the Columbia Records imprint after Virgin’s parent company EMI, was acquired by Universal Music last September in a $1.9 million merger. The Daft Punk’s fourth album will be their first under their new contract.
