From a shortlist including Abbe May, Adalita, Boy & Bear, Goyte, Gurrumul, Jack Ladder, Kimbra, The Jezabels and The [now-defunct] Middle East The Jezabels have taken home the Australian Music Prize ( and a $30,000 career development purse) for their debut LP Prisoner.

A rise like The Jezabel’s have had doesn’t come along every day – but neither does a band like this. Already an AIR Award winner, The Jezabels debut album,  Prisoner has already achieved gold status, and those who caught the quartet on their last tour, that sold out venues nationwide, are backing them all the way. Their dramatic, creative songwriting, led by commanding frontman Hayley Mary, has been making a serious impression on the Australian musical landscape since their inception. Another tour is slated for June.
