As the Beach Boys approach their 50th anniversary, with original member Al Jardine promising a 50th anniversary reunion with all living members, it appears the dream has hit a snag. Mike Love and Bruce Johnston who have been schlepping their individual versions of the Beach Boys around RSLs and Bowls Clubs worldwide for the last few years have leapt at the chance for an increased paycheck by agreeing to the shows. Alas it seems no-one told Beach Boys songwriter and tortured genius Brian Wilson. Although he has been ‘playing’ his most loved albums – Smile and Pet Sounds – live for the past decade, Wilson says “maybe, we don’t know yet. I don’t think so, though…Well, I don’t really enjoy working with Mike [Love] and Bruce [Johnston], you know. It’s not my style to work with those guys.” You tell ‘em Brian.
