It’s been three years since Britain’s The XX stormed the music world with their impressive, Mercury Music Prize-winning debut, but this September will finally see the release of its highly-anticipated follow-up.

Entitled Coexist, the band’s second album was self-produced by the band’s own Jamie Smith (aka Jamie X), recorded between November 2011 and May 2012 in the band’s own home studio in London.

Announcing the news over their Facebook account, the band wrote: “After a long time on the road, we took a break, created our own studio and wrote these new songs that we’re so looking forward to playing to you. We will be touring throughout the summer and beyond, and hope to play somewhere near you soon.”

Meanwhile, following recent intimate shows in the UK and France and an appearance at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound last night, The xx are set to play shows in North America, Europe and Japan over the summer.

Turns out it was much sooner than expected, following their recent intimate shows in Europe, the London trio have used their Facebook page again to make another surprise announcement, that they’ll be playing a pair of special, balloted shows for Melbourne and Sydney this July.

“We are very excited to be returning to Australia soon for two small shows,” they wrote. “We will play Melbourne Forum on July 18th and Sydney Metro on July 20th. To try and stop touts getting all the tickets, there is a lottery system which you can apply for starting at 10am today.”

You can go direct to the ballot for The Forum show in Melbourne here.

Or to the Metro show in Sydney here.

Who says we don’t look after you?

Coexist will be released in Australia on Friday 7 September 2012 via Young Turks/Remote Control, but in the meantime, why not listen to a few live renditions of new songs The XX dropped during their recent European concerts?
