Building on the success of last year’s appearance, Brisbane Festival has just announced the first details of its 2012 lineup featuring a bevy of local and international talent over a nearly month-long program.

The festival’s temporary music venue, the Courier Mail Spigeltent, will be hosting the lion’s share of music events with indie rock figurehead and member of the occasionally-reunited Pavement, Stephen Malkmus headlining with his outfit, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks; backed by fellow alt-rock countrymen, Nada Surf, as well Jenny ‘Rilo Kiley’ Wilson’s singer/songwriter squeeze, Jonathan Wilson and NYC songstress, Ingrid Michaelson.

The bill also contains many of Australia’s finest troubadours including the recently solo-launched Julia Stone, the cowboy cryin’ Lanie Lane, blues and roots artist Mia Dyson and iconic indigenous performer Archie Roach.

West Sydney hip hop crew, Horrorshow will also be in attendance, appearing in some of their first live shows in nearly two years. Additionally, Holly Throsby – one third of SeekerLoverKeeper – will be performing in a family-friendly musical entitled See!

Brisbane Festival also guarantees a selection of late night soundtrack provided by DJs and electronic acts, and being a city-wide festival, also boasts some impressive art and theatre events that covers the range of comedy, performance art, orchestral concerts, exhibitions and more during the Festival’s run from September 8th – September 29.

Tickets go on sale from Monday 2nd July and you can head to the Brisbane Festival website for more details.
