After creating a colossal buzz around the globe with their debut EP, Woodland, Melbourne indie-folk five-piece, The Paper Kites are back with a new offering, their Young North EP. The band will be celebrating the release with a national tour that will kick off in NSW on October 11, making their way around the country and finishing up with homecoming shows in VIC in early November.

Overflowing with delicate energy and emotion, this five-track masterpiece is packed with the folk charm The Paper Kites are best known for. The EP was co-produced by the band and ARIA Award winning producer, Wayne Connolly (The Vines, Josh Pyke, Paul Dempsey, Sarah Blasko) at Melbourne’s Sing-Sing Studio. “Wayne seemed to really understand and had such a love and excitement about what we were trying to do… he didn’t want to touch any of the structures, which we loved because it was how we wrote them,” explains vocalist Sam Bentley.

The first single to be lifted from the EP, A Maker Of My Time was serviced to Australian media last week and has already managed to pick up a host of radio additions, including an add at Triple J. The video clip for the song was co-directed by the band and Jefferton James (Boy & Bear, Avalanche City) and has had almost 40,000 views since going online just last week, looking set to rival the success of their two previous clips Bloom and Featherstone, which have had almost 3million combined views online. “I remember struggling to explain the concept I had for this video to anyone else in the band without it sounding like the most boring thing ever. Everyone was worried about the potential for disaster, but they ended up trusting the idea, which I’m so thankful for… the end result wouldn’t have been the way it is if we had have prepared storyboards and choreographed the moves. It was so loose and full of expression and character and you can’t script that stuff,” says Sam, “we wanted people to watch it and get to the end and think ‘what was that?’ and want to watch it again!”

Having learned the ins and outs of touring while supporting Boy & Bear and Josh Pyke, The Paper Kites are ready to hit the road on their own national headline tour, joined on all dates by very special guests, Art Of Sleeping and Battleships. Sam explains, “both Josh and Boy & Bear were so eager to pass down things from their experiences on the road, which we soaked up like sponges. We’re excited about the ‘Young North’ tour because it feels like we’re starting to carve our own place as a headlining band, we get to take a little crew on the road and can step up the music and production.”

The Paper Kites’ live show boasts captivating intricacies alongside a full sound and is definitely one not to be missed.
