Following on from the announcement of a brand new studio album, Push Away The Skydue for February 2013, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have announced a six-date national sojourn to coincide with the release of their new record.

The legendary Australian ensemble, “unlike any other band on earth for pure, instinctive inventiveness” (in the words of their ringleader, Nick Cave) will be taking their renowned live show to Australia in February and March 2013, including performances of music from across their 15-album strong back catalogue, as well as material from their beautiful new LP, Push The Sky Away – which the band revealed the full details of late last weeek.

Along with the brand new tour dates, we also have the first taste of the new album in lead single ‘We No Who U R’, a lilting yet moody number that finds Cave offering sombre lines over a gently insistent rhythm before simple, sweeping melodies come soaring into earshot. It’s a far more restrained musical affair to the horny storm of the now defunct Grinderman, and also more than a few musical miles away from the wild-man blues of  2008’s Dig! Lazarus, Dig!!!

The fragile musical sphere of ‘We No Who U R’ is also in (deliberate) contrast to the poor SMS-style spelling of its title, reflecting the lyrical and thematic thread of the new album between Cave and his views on technology, stating that the songs of Push The Sky Away “convey how on the internet profoundly significant events, momentary fads, and mystically-tinged absurdities sit side-by-side and question how we might recognise and assign weight to what’s genuinely important.”

Cave also jotted down inspirations in a traditional “modest notebook with shellac covers over the course of almost a year,” but also seeked sources from the world wide web, Googling ferociously, trawling Wikipedia entries “whether they’re true or not.”

Fans can also pre-order physical versions of Push The Sky Away along with tickets to the Australian 2013 tour at nickcave.com

Cave, along with multi-instrumentalist wizard Warren Ellis, bassist Martyn Casey, drummer Thomas Wydler, percussionist Jim Sclavunos, and vocalist Conway Savage; will head to stages across Australia with what is promised to be “the grandest production of their career.”

The 2013 tour kicks off in Sydney on February 26th with their debut shows at the iconic Sydney Opera House, with selections of the show to feature members of the Sydney Symphony, before the Bad Seed machine rolls on to some of the largest and most beautiful venues in the country.
