Fans of Perth rock outfit Birds Of Tokyo have welcomed the latest news from band HQ, announcing the release date of their forthcoming album, neatly coinciding with dates for a month-long national tour next year.

Having recently concluded their short EP tour, which showcased the group’s new sound and heralding EP This Fire, the Perth quintet have set their sights on a March 1 release date for the new full length album, titled March Fires.

The new record will feature a number of changes, including a new band formation including two new members, as well as a featuring a shift in songwriting approach, inspired by the travels of the band in their 18 month long break from national touring.

The addition of Glenn Sarangapany on keys and Ian Berney on bass has ignited a new creative spark amongst the group. The new direction has also resulted in band members bidding farewell to their home city in Perth, and relocating along the east coast.

The move has generated a new creative approach, to coincide with the injection of songwriting fuel discovered whilst spending time in the French countryside. Finally ending up in LA, the recording process began with the help of new producer, Dave Cooley, who is the brains behind the slick production of  Silversun Pickups.

Guitarist Adam Spark spoke about the creative procedure that was followed during the albums formation: “We really made a conscious choice to just put a match to everything we’d done before so that we could create something that felt fresh and exciting for us” he explains. “Hopefully people who like the band will feel the same way when they hear it”.

After building an army of loyal fans during the early years, which featured 2007’s Day One and 2008’s Universes, the band began dominating the Australian music charts, receiving double platinum certifications and hit singles “Plans” and “Wild At Heart”, both coming from the groups third release, Birds Of Tokyo.

The success of the group was no doubt capitalized by a busy touring schedule, which saw the band play venues and festivals Australia wide over the last four years, with the new release set to gift the group an extension on their mammoth fan base.

To further excite fans, the band will tour nationally, including a string of regional shows to spread the word of their new album, which will kick off late February. Their first national tour appearance for over a year will no doubt draw large crowds, as the group has done ever so often in their illustrious touring history.

Regular John will play support to the alternative rockers (except for dates in WA) as they weave their way through each state, blessing stages with their charming musical ways.

As well as looking forward to the headline tour, Birds Of Tokyo fans have yet another reason to be excited, with news the band will headline the inaugural Big Pineapple Music Festival set to take place in the Sunshine State on April 20th 2013 alongside iconic Australian rock groups like Grinspoon, Regurgitator, and British India.

Tickets for the Birds Of Tokyo national tour will be available from Friday 14 December, while the fan club presale takes place the day before on Thursday 13 December at 9am.
