Last August, after many juicy rumours and speculation, the collective wishes of many came true in the announcement that the boutique festival of boutique festivals, All Tomorrow’s Parties, would be making its long-awaited return to Australia in the shape of Melbourne’s I’ll Be Your Mirror.

With a dream lineup curated by The Drones and featuring such long-absent touring acts like My Bloody Valentine, Einstürzende Neubauten, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, as well as the surprise reform of the original Beasts of Bourbon lineup, ATP already surpassed expectations for its two day festival to be held this February.

This morning organisers for ATP have announced a second round of acts to join the lineup gracing the Westgate Entertainment Centre and Grand Star Reception in Altona this February 16th and 17th.

Topping the list of new additions is influential cult Cleveland, Ohio act Pere Ubu, who will be performing the crown jewel of their 35 year career, their 1978 debut The Modern Dance, live and in full, just one day shy of the album’s 35th Anniversary.

Another act sure to get the fans excited is Crime And The City Solution, playing their first Australasian show in over 20 years, following the release of their recent retrospective compilation An Introduction To… Crime & The City Solution: Berlin 1987-1991. A new album is also in the works, the group’s first in over two decades.

The lineup gracing Australia’s shores will be the ‘Berlin era’, featuring Simon Bonney (vocals), Bronwyn Adams (violin) and Alexander Hacke (guitar), and will be joined by renowned visual artist Danielle de Picciotto, Jim White (drums, The Dirty Three), David Eugene Edwards (guitar, 16 Horsepower
/ Wovenhand), Troy Gregory (bass, The Dirtbombs / Swans / Spiritualized) and Matthew Smith (keyboards).

The highly respected Kev Carmody has also been added to the fold, with the singing-songwriting “conduit of stories” bringing his vast experience and support of Indigenous Australia’s oral traditions to bear on I’ll Be Your Mirror.Pere Ubu, who will be performing the crown jewel of their 35 year career, their 1978 debut The Modern Dance, live and in full

Carmody is the first of a number of left-field Australian artists added to the mix, including contemporary composer Oren Ambarchi, who has collaborated with the likes of Sun O))) and Boris, Neo-minimalist Ben Frost and his throbbing guitar textures, and the ever-compelling Dan Kelly and his Dream Band, made up of ex members of Augie March and Ground Components.

One of Tasmania’s finest, Hobart’s The Stickmen, will be reforming exclusively for the event bringing their acid-fried take on surf rock to the live setting once more, influential Melbourne trio My Disco will be celebrating 10 years of music this February, and have included ATP Melbourne in their schedule of festivities.

Rounding out the lineup are ‘two-thirds human/one-third machine’ group Civil Civic, Melbourne’s rising cult act New War, the atmospheric dissonance of Strangers From Now On; and last but not least Cold Chisel alumni Don Walker, drawing from his recent swathe of solo material.

There’s still more to be added to the lineup, including DJs plus the film and arts component of the festival, but there’s already enough reason to be salivating over what is a once-in-a-lifetime lineup.

Tickets for the Saturday leg of the event, headlined by My Bloody Valentine – playing their first show down under since 1991 – understandably sold out in just 24 hours, with with tickets to Sunday, curated by the Drones, selling fast and less than 100 two day weekend passes left – so you’d better act fast.
