While the speculation continues for the lineups over next year’s major music festivals such as Soundwave and Laneway, the jewel of Victoria’s music calendar is ready to reveal its own hand.

Following on from confirming this year’s dates, Aunty Meredith has announced the full Meredith 2013 lineup of the acts that’ll be appearing at the 23rd Meredith Music Festival this December 13, 14 & 15, helping fill the stunning Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre with sights and sounds over three splendid days and two glorious nights.

Aunty Meredith has already confirmed that audiences will be able to ‘Freak Out’ with the return of Nile Rodgers and Chic! – returning only a year after rocking The Sup’ at Golden Plains Sixxx – as well as sludge metal forefathers the Melvins.

Now the full lineup is with us and it is as beautifully eclectic and wonderful as always. On the international front, the ‘Sup welcomes the return of the freaked-out splendour of The Brian Jonestwon Massacre, Bradford Cox and his rock curios in Deerhunter are back, esteemed classically-trained, electronically delivered producer Jon Hopkins, pick of the fresh hip-hop litter Joey Bada$$, the slippery guitar slack of Mac DeMarco, and ‘Godfather of techno’ Derrick May. There’s also heavy rock heroes Helmet, outwardly proud ‘gaynster’ MC LE1F, legendary DJ Tim Sweeney

Locally, it’s an all-star collection as well, with the return of the classic Beasts of Bourbon lineup after more than a decade’s absence from The ‘Sup, Spiderbait also make a long-awaited comeback to Meredith nearly 20 years after they made it a staple. There’ll be plenty to get your backbone shimmying to with the presence of Hermitude, The Bamboos, World’s End Press, and Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes.

Punters will also be kicking up the Meredith dust with the local likes of Stonefield, Courtney Barnett, Smith Street Band, Dick Diver, The UV Race, Vance Joy, Baptism of Uzi, Beaches, Oliver Tank, and Roland Tings.

With one stage, BYO beverages, zero commercial sponsors, glorious campgrounds, the famed ‘No Dickheads Policy’, and some of the most picturesque views this side of the hemisphere – all the usual trimmings are in place to ensure the festival’s 23rd edition will continue to have Meredith converts boasting that it’s “arguably the nation’s best music festival,” as our Tone Deaf reviewer enthused of last year’s event.

There’s one small tweak however. There’ll “be 500 less people at Meredith this year,” says the benevolent Aunty Meredith, which means that the all-important Subscriber Ticket Ballot is going to be even more contested, as its the first chance to grab tickets before the rest go on public sale.

The second round of the ticket ballot is now open and all ballot winners will be notified by email with a unique Meredith Key for the online box office and there’s only type of ticket: the Full Meredith Experience (three days/two nights/camping/parking) for $309 (+$10 b/f). Ballot and Online tickets via Registered Post are an additional $7.

While that may be a $30 increase to ticket price from Meredith 2012, considering this year’s edition focuses on the mysterious power and luck of number 23, you can expect Aunty Meredith to rope in a musical lineup guaranteed for the history books – after all, she already ‘Got Lucky’ with the return of Nile Rodgers and Chic.

So get ready for another year of zero lineup clashes, nudie runs (in the annual Meredith Gift), fun in the sun, beer, tunes, and memory-making at Meredith 2013
