Another huge round of Official Bluesfest 2014 Sideshows have been announced.

The Bluesfest Touring company has already confirmed a huge batch of official sideshows from artists featuring on the festival’s 25th Silver Anniversary Edition lineup, including concerts from Aaron Neville & Dr John, Steve Earle, Morcheeba, KT Tunstall, plus Booker T Jones, Suzanne Vega, and many more.

Now comes the announcement of two massive triple bill concerts to add to the growing Bluesfest touring season, teaming up Buddy Guy with special guests The James Cotton Blues Band and Charlie Musselwhite, as well as Gregg Allman with Gov’t Mule and Devon Allman.

In other news, Bluesfest Touring have added a Brisbane show at the Brisbane Powerhouse for leading folk singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega, who will be performing a string of intimate shows on her national tour including dates in Perth, Cairns, Melbourne and Sydney.

The sideshows arrive after the addition of Buddy Guy and Jake Bugg to the Bluesfest 2014 lineup, joining the already announced likes of Elvis Costello, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews Band, John MayerDoobie Brothers, and a list of blues and reggae legends.

Buddy Guy & The James Cotton Blues Band & Charlie Musselwhite Bluesfest 2014 Sideshow

This incredible trio is set to knockout Melbourne with their sensational show at the Palais Theatre. Bluesfest Festival Director Peter Noble is more than chuffed to be presenting this tour and said; “Melbourne has never been hit with a show like this before, there is no greater live Bluesman performing today than Buddy Guy….he simply IS the Blues.” Joining Buddy Guy is James Cotton ‘Mr Superharp’ and his band – who will be in Australia for the very first time for this tour  – and Charlie Musselwhite, another master of the harp and legend of the Blues is returning to Australia after impressing all when he joined Ben Harper earlier this year. With Buddy Guy pulling back on International touring, this is a rare opportunity to see these three Blues Greats all on one stage.

Gregg Allman & Gov’t Mule & Devon Allman Bluesfest 2014 Sideshow

For those into their Southern Blues and Rock, Gregg Allman, founding member and leader of the legendary Allman Brothers Band and a solo musician in his own right will be appearing alongside his special guests Gov’t Mule and Devon Allman. The Allman Brothers Band have never toured Australia so this will be the first time on our shores for Gregg Allman. Fronted by visionary singer-guitarist Warren Haynes, member of The Allman Brothers since 1989, Gov’t Mule returns to Australia for the first time in 14 years. Devon Allman, son of Gregg Allman, who fronts Royal Southern Brotherhood and has also appeared in The Allman Brothers Band over the years, will be fronting his own band this time around. With three members of The Allman Brothers Band in the wings, this incendiary line-up will be tearing up the stage in Sydney and Melbourne and giving Allman Brothers fans a dose of the famed Allman Brothers Southern Rock/ Jam sound.

Suzanne Vega Bluesfest 2014 Sideshows


Leading folk singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega – writer of unforgettable songs such as ‘Luka’, ‘Tom’s Diner’, ‘Marlene On The Wall’, ‘Caramel’, and more – will be performing intimate shows on her national tour. Vega will be accompanied by Irish guitarist Gerry Leonard who has collaborated with the likes of David Bowie and Cyndi Lauper. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, Suzanne Vega has given sold-out concerts and collaborated with Leonard Cohen, The Black Keys, Jerry Garcia, Soul Rebels Brass Band – to name a few – whilst her music has been sampled or covered by the likes of Tupac Shakur, R.E.M., Destiny’s Child, Ludacris and Lil’ Kim.

Virtuoso fiddler and multi-instrumentalist, Seth Lakeman, will join Suzanne Vega as support. His charisma and energy will entrance and enthral his growing army of present-day fans and undoubtedly captivate lovers of heartfelt music with h his seventh album in towWord of Mouth set for release in February 2014.
