Placebo Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves have been announced.

Following on from a batch of Soundwave 2014 sidewaves being announced this morning, Stone Temple Pilots are now confirmed to be playing two intimate theatre shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

Having recently released their seventh studio album and with a career spanning 17 years, Placebo will be playing just two very special sidewaves in Sydney and Melbourne.

When Brian Molko – singer songwriter with bleak-hearted rock three piece, Placebo – began writing his band’s seventh studio album Loud Like Love released in September last year, his intention was to sketch out enough tracks to make the B3 EP.

What followed was a splurge of creativity and grand ambition that resulted in Loud Like Love, a release that marks Placebo as a band big on heart-scarred intimacy as well as anthemic pop hooks.

If you only know these androgynous rockers from Molko’s distinctive nasal twang and their 1998 sophomore Without You I’m Nothing, then you’re doing it wrong.

Placebo have been steadily crafting an impressive body of work since then, dipping their toe into industrial rock and fizzing punk, with healthy lashings of electronic and symphonic influences. They’re also consummate professionals on the European tour circuit who know how to fill a venue with a grand sense of ambition and fervour.

Then there’s the brand new tunes on Loud Like Love, which enlisted the services of American novelist Bret Easton Ellis for the video for lead single ‘Too Many Friends‘, which would provide a nice mid-festival breather before they grind back into fan crushing favourites like ‘Special K’, ‘The Bitter End’, and ‘Taste In Men’.

The Placebo 2014 Sidewaves announcements join the co-headline shows from Rob Zombie & Korn, as well as Alter Bridge & Living Colour, and Stone Temple Pilots – the first in a series of “HEAPS more great news rolling out today and all of next week.”

That includes the third Soundwave 2014 lineup announcement, which will be announced at 8pm AEDT tonight (Friday 17th February).

Following on from the public dispute between Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah and Sevendust, after the later cancelled on their festival appearance, the Soundwave 2014 lineup is set to grow again with the third lineup announce, which will include more international acts and beefing up the massive 60+ bill.
