Alice In Chains Soundwave 2014 Sidewaves have been announced, in the latest of a series of massive triple headlining shows from Soundwave-billed acts.

Grunge icons Alice In Chains will play headline sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne this February, joined by fellow rock acts Down and Walking Papers, adding to the ever-growing list of 2014 Sidewaves that includes triple-bill shows from MegadethMastodonJimmy Eat World, Less Than Jake, plus the swathe of perviously announced 2014 Sidewaves.

Arriving for the first time Down Under since releasing their latest album, last year’s The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, Alice In Chains are back in full force after reforming in 2005 with new frontman William DuVall replacing original vocalist Layne Staley. The Seattle quartet will be performing classics like ‘Down In A Hole’ and ‘Rooster’ as well as new, powerful cuts like ‘Hollow’ and ‘Stone’.

Joining Alice In Chains for their 2014 Sidewaves is metal supergroup Down, featuring frontman Phil Anselmo of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity guitarist Pepper Keenan, bassist Pat Bruders of Goatwhore, guitarist Bobby Landgraf, and drummer Jimmy Bower from Eyehategod.

Another heavy rock triumvirate, Walking Papers, round out the rock trifecta, with a lineup that includes former Guns N Roses/Velvet Revolver member Duff McKagan, Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, and Jeff Angell and Benjamin Anderson from The Missionary Position.

The Alice In Chains announcement follows huge last-minute lineup changes to the Soundwave 2014 lineup after top-billed act Stone Temple Pilots announced they’d cancelled on their festival appearance and sideshows just four weeks out from the event’s kick off.

Citing commitments to recording their first album with Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, Soundwave revealed that Aussie rock favourites, The Living End, would be replacing STP on the Soundwave 2014 lineup.

The latest addition to the bill following  a third lineup announcement bringing the likes of Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, Filter, and I Killed The Prom Queen, to join festival headliners Green Day and Avenged Sevenfold, plus the ranks of such bands as Megadeth, Rob Zombie, Alice In Chains, Korn, Biffy ClyroMastodon, A Day To Remember, Gojria, and many more.

The Alice In Chains, Down, and Walking With Papers join a series of massive triple-headline shows from Less Than Jake, Bowling For Soup, and ZebraheadJimmy Eat World, Panic! At The Disco, with Alkaline TrioMastodon, Baroness, and Gojira, as well as Rob Zombie & Korn, and Alter Bridge & Living Colour, plus Megadeth, Volbeat, and Newsted. Other headline Soundwave 2014 artists playing sideshows include Placebo and Clutch.
