With just 11 days left until Soundwave 2014 kicks off, promoter AJ Maddah has given some insight into the annual rock festival’s scheduling.

Ahead of the official Soundwave 2014 set times being unveiled, and following from the surprise news that Megadeth have cancelled on their festival commitments, Maddah took to twitter last night to reveal a series of set time drafts to his 37,100+ followers.

The drafts of the timetables only features a selection of the stages that will be hosting the 90+ bands on this year’s Soundwave 2014 lineup as the final touches on the scheduling is completed, though in characteristically open style, Maddah engaged with fans over the various lineup configurations and time blocking.

“I don’t know if you can make this out, but it is a draft of main stages times!” came the first of Maddah’s tweet reveals.

The current version shows headliners Green Day closing the Soundwave main stage with a whopping 3 hour set. That’s more than enough time for the punk veterans to hypothetically play Dookietheir 1994 major label debut (celebrating its 20th anniversary the month of the festival), in full and still have time to fit in a healthy chunk of the rest of their 11-album discography.

Preceding Green Day at the main stages is alternating hour-long sets from Jimmy Eat World, Alice In Chains, A Day To Remember, Placebo, The Living End (who replace Stone Temple Pilots) and more.

Soundwave 2014 bill-toppers Avenged Sevenfold will close Stage 3 of Soundwave 2014, as a rough screenshot reveals (“Can anyone read this? I suck at technology,” admits Maddah), providing an overlap for fans of Green Day to catch both bands, with Maddah You can see 2 hours of GD and then A7X.

After a helpful twitterer got involved, a clearer-looking draft of Stage 4 and its annex came later in the evening, showing Newsted opening up in the mid-morning, while the annex features a closing set from costumed metal satirists Gwar, who according To Maddah; “have to be last on. once they have played/spilled shit everywhere the stage might as well be burned down…”

Don’t take the set times as gospel as they are are (obviously) subject to change, with Maddah pointing out that the aim is “more about avoiding clashes on the overall picture than who is bigger than whom. fans come 1st.”

Besides, scheduling over 90 bands across multiple stages to please everybody is no easy task. That being said, the main stage is “pretty much nailed on” says Maddah, while the remaining stages will “change around main” and “may get slightly altered” from city to city. The official Soundwave 2014 set times are due on Wed night for “Brisbane and Sydney. Rest on Friday,” confirms the Soundwave boss.

The Soundwave 2014 set time drafts will hopefully get fans excited after the news that Megadeth have cancelled on their commitment to appearing at the festival, just a week after Newsted were dropped from Megadeth’s Sidewave shows, while frontman Dave Mustaine claimed they had nothing to do with Newsted’s removal from the bill.

Yesterday, Mustaine took to the band’s Facebook page to write, “All I asked for was an apology for blaming me for something I didn’t do. I am still willing to play, but the promoter would rather not apologize and prefers to say I asked him to lie, which I didn’t. Am I the only one that sees how easy it is to fix this? The AJ Maddah that I know is a wise and caring man, and I don’t know what has happened to my old friend. My bags are packed Aussie fans.”

Following a series of emotional tweets, Maddah wrote: “So here it is Dave. I apologize for whatever slight you think I have done you,” with no word yet from Megadeth’s camp, with the promoter adding today that there is no updates but “Total silence. Got a call from his agent apologising for his behaviour. That’s about it.”

In more positive news, the proposed move for Soundwave 2014’s closing date in Perth away from the Claremont Showgrounds to Arena Joondalup (mirroring Big Day Out’s last-minute venue change following ongoing battles with Claremont Council) is looking to go ahead.

“We’re very close to getting Joondalup done!” tweeted Maddah. “So excited! Finally no ridiculous sound restrictions or thugs closing down stages!”
