Another festival bites to dust is seems with the biggest event in Canberra outside the federal election, Stonefest, announcing on triple j this morning that the festival as we know it will cease to be.

Only a few weeks ago organisers announced a blockbuster lineup featuring Jebediah, The Grates, The Vines, Stonefield and more. However it now appears that locals were not too enthused with the lineup with tickets failing to move in any significant way.

“Stonefest is not attracting as many people as seen in previous years, and we feel we cannot continue with the 2011 festival in its current format,” director of Campus Life Peter Dahl said.

“This is an opportunity for us to present something different to the Canberra audience. So, to give our loyal supporters something to look forward to, we have decided to present a more intimate event, which still boasts a strong lineup of some of the best dance and hip hop artists in Australia today. We are excited about the Stonefest ‘Rock On’ Party lineup and encourage the local community to support this event.”

Ticket holders who purchased Stonefest 2011 tickets via credit card will receive an automatic refund to their card. Those that purchased with cash or EFTPOS should return to their point of purchase with photo identification to obtain a refund.

A replacement party however has been announced, curiously called The Stonefest ‘Rock On’ Party although pretty much all of the rock acts have been taken removed with only urban and dance acts remaining. The party will be held at the University of Canberra on Saturday 29 October, 2011. Tickets for this event will cost $27.50 plus booking fees and can be purchased from Ticketek via 132 849 or www.ticketek.com.

The lineup for the Stonefest ‘Rock On’ Party will be:

The Aston Shuffle
Illy
Tonite Only

Sampology (AV/DJ set)
Diafrix
The Hump Day Project
Dept. of Defiance
Silent Party featuring: Strangeways DJs, Jemist, Pang! DJs, Architect DJs, PARTY BY JAKE DJs, Swim Team DJs, MUM DJs & M.I.T.
