Now that the Hottest 100 is done and dusted for another year, we’re beginning to see the effect of the beloved chart on the ARIA charts yet again. While we tend to see a sales boost happen every year, it’s always humbling to see our Aussie acts see a boost of popularity thanks to the annual poll.

While the top 2 positions on the ARIA Singles Chart are currently dominated by Ed Sheeran, the #3 position belongs to the Hottest 100 #2 place-getter, Amy Shark, and her sleeper hit ‘Adore’. Having reached #13 in last week’s chart, the high-reaching success of her track has seen the Gold Coast muso jump a full 10 positions in the charts.

Likewise, this week’s charts have also seen the 11th Hottest track of the year, Pnau’s ‘Chameleon’, jump up from #7 last week to an even more respectable #4 this week. Peking Duk have managed to maintain the #12 position for another week with their track ‘Stranger’, while Hottest 100 winner Flume has seen his winning track ‘Never Be Like You’ re-enter the charts this week, going from #54 to #18.

Other charts also give a fair representation of the countdown’s influence on the charts, with the ARIA Albums Chart showing the best performance is clearly by Tash Sultana, with her Notion EP jumping from #74 last week to the incredibly well-deserved #8 this week. In the same vein, Flume’s Skin LP has managed to perform as expected as well, jumping from #25 last week to #12 this week.

Undoubtedly, an exemplary performance in the Hottest 100 translates into some ARIA chart success, but we’d certainly like to see some of these deserving artists get to the top position on the charts. Who knows, Ed Sheeran may need to watch out, Amy Shark and Tash Sultana might just be gunning for those top positions soon enough.
