Panama, led by Jarrah McCleary, are the newest band to emerge from Sydney’s bubbling live music scene. Their also label Future Classic’s newest signing, and they’ve both got big plans ahead.

Fresh from the success of lead single, ‘Magic’ – a modern summer anthem to unstick you from the winter blues – Panama have risen as the result of McCleary’s previous project, The Dirty Secrets. A classically trained pianist from the age of six, McCleary is originally from the sticky heat of the Northern Territory, but soon found himself working between Australia and London with iconic producer and engineer, Nick Terry (Klaxons, Libertines).

The result was literally ‘Magic’, Panama’s lead single which was produced and mixed in Los Angeles by Eric Broucek of DFA Fame, whose previous production CV includes the likes of Holy Ghost!, !!! (aka chk chk chk) and one half of The Fiery Furnaces, Eleanor Friedberger.

‘Magic’ will see an official release on vinyl, complete with remixes by Permanent Vacation and DFA alumni Gavin Rossum, but has already been gaining lots of love from both the blogosphere and the airwaves; with triple j and community radio already throwing their support behind it.

Panama’s live show is already a huge hit having supported Dappled Cities, Parachute Youth and Elizabeth Rose . If you want to catch Panama’s stellar live show in the flesh they’ll be heading out on tour supporting Van She in Melbourne and Sydney as well as playing UNSW Roundhouse and supporting Northeast Party House at Goodgod Small Club in July.
