Just in case you weren’t aware, Paul McCartney is touring Australia this year, and Aussies are pretty excited. In fact, tickets to see the former Beatle are in such high demand that two extra shows had to be announced just to cope with the demand. What we’re saying is that these concerts are sort of a big deal. But just in case you weren’t already excited enough at the mere prospect of rock royalty gracing Aussie stages, his recent performance in Miami, Florida, might just tip your excitement over the edge.
Over the course of 39 songs, McCartney wowed the audience with an eclectic mix of songs from his time with The Beatles, Wings, his first band The Quarrymen, and even threw in a performance ‘FourFiveSeconds’, a track originally recorded as a collaboration with Rihanna and Kanye West.
24 Beatles songs made the cut, including set opener ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, and fitting closer ‘The End’. Six Wings songs were included, as well seven McCartney solo tracks. The Quarrymen’s ‘In Spite of All the Danger’ was a rather obscure inclusion, having first been recorded back in 1958 by McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, pianist John Lowe, and drummer Colin Hanton, and was only released to the public for the first time in 1995.
Of course, who’s to say this performance will be repeated song-for-song when Macca comes to Australia, but at the very least, it’s a pretty good indication of what local audiences are set to see when his tour kicks off in December.
