Adelaide indietronic duo Nakatomi have just managed to deliver one of the coolest tracks of the year so far, thanks to the dark yet wholly inspirational ‘Wooden Castle’, serving as a taste of their upcoming EP.

Nakatomi is Emily Smart and Hamish Cox, and together they make a nostalgic form of music that is rooted in sounds from the ’80s, mixed with contemporary production techniques and instrumentation.

Mixed by JP Fung (The Jungle Giants, Phebe Starr, Birds Of Tokyo), the track sees the group masterfully utilising a number of vocal samples, along with a powerful chorus, to deliver a song rooted in the frustration of mounting pressure and unreachable goals, yet resolving in a message of hope.

“’Wooden Castle’ evolved, using several themes about the woods, feeling stuck and striving towards goals that seem out of reach,” says vocalist Emily. “It’s a balance of mounting pressure, contrasted by a strength in acceptance of who you are, and not giving up on yourself even when people try to cut you down.”

With the duo’s new EP slated for an early 2018 release, Nakatomi have been working with a number of huge names across Australia and Los Angeles over the last six months, including Tony Buchen (Montaigne, ASTA, East), Mario Spate (Tkay Maidza), and Luke Godson (Luke Million).

To help give fans their first taste of this new track, and to preview some new songs from their upcoming EP, Nakatomi will be hitting road soon for a new tour. Playing a hometown show this Friday for Hybrid World Adelaide alongside Nina Las Vegas,  the duo will then head out on the Sad Grrrls tour alongside names like Major Leagues and Rachel Maria Cox, playing shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney throughout November.
