One of this country’s best and most recognisable collectives NO ZU recently unleashed their incredibly impressive second LP Afterlife. A follow on from their attention commanding 2012 LP Life, Afterlife is nothing short of a triumphant return for Melbourne based dance/ world/ weirdo pop crew.

Delving into a deeper, darker, more urgent world, while still maintaining their trademark sound, Afterlife explores as band leader Nicolaas Oogjes explains as themes of human beauty, body movement, BDSM, belief systems, mortality, immortality, the fetishisation of Australian colonial invasion and destruction of land/cultures, all sung in dynamic dancefloor metaphors. It’s an ambitious release, but we’d expect nothing less from the eclectic band.

To celebrate its release and the news that NO ZU will be taking their 16-legged percussive punk-funk machine on the road, they’re today premiering a six minute  a discombobulating but infinitely listenable remix of latest ZU single Spirit Beat, crafted by band buddies STATUE.

Actually a side project for Tom Gould of World’s End Press STATUE, have also released the track for free via Chapter’s Soundcloud (for a limited time). Check it out below and be sure to catch NO ZU on the road this March and April.
