It was midway through last year that Melbourne duo nyck (that’s pronounced as an acronym, by the way) dropped their first song into triple j Unearthed, and in the few short months that have followed they’ve signed with Mushroom imprint 100s + 1000s, supported 2016 breakout act Amy Shark on her sold-out tour, and prepped their five-track debut EP Alive for release this Friday.

Taken from that record is new single ‘This Might Be My Year’ which, we imagine, will be quite prophetic. Complete with a beautifully-shot clip, it’s a gorgeous, spacious piece laden with delicate harmonies.

It’s one of five tracks we’ll hear on the record, sitting alongside their Unearthed debut and follow-up single ‘Speak My Mind’, with all of the EP’s five songs being completed during a three month period in 2016 that followed the breakdown of a longterm relationship for lead vocalist Nick Acquroff. Joined by Dominique Garrard, he’s shaped that period of heartbreak into a wonderfully forlorn yet optimistic piece of work that is, in his own words, “about building from a place of feeling completely detached to feeling alive again.”

You can preorder the pair’s debut effort Alive here ahead of its release this Friday June 9 through 100s + 1000s.
