Phebe Starr has just released a clip for her gorgeous new synth-pop track ‘Wonder’, taken from her long-awaited sophomore EP Chronicles, released earlier this year.

Cut together from a personal trove of video footage shot in her childhood home of Dorrigo in NSW, with a population of 1000, the clip’s sentimental nature ties directly in with her journey to becoming a songwriter.

“‘Wonder’ was the first track I wrote on this EP,” she says. “It defined what I wanted this body of work to be about. I asked myself ‘Why do I create?’ This question took me back to where I started making art as a child. I wanted to capture the feeling of innocence and hope.”

It’s been a four year break since her impressive 2013 debut Zero, but Phebe has just returned with her soulful six-track follow-up, delivering a gorgeous record that can sit comfortably alongside the likes of Florence + The Machine or Sky Ferreira.

While the new EP was a long time in the making, Phebe hasn’t been sitting idle, and has played alongside the likes of Tigertown, Jagwar Ma, Of Monsters & Men and The Rubens. Last year saw her head over to play at SXSW in Austin, Texas, but with a new record ready to be unleashed live, we’re happy to have her back home.

If you like what you hear, you can catch Phebe on the second leg of her national tour, starting tonight in Brisbane before wrapping up in the Gold Coast on Saturday.
