When it comes to the colour purple, Prince is second to only Cadbury in terms of brand recognition, so it is only fitting that the officials at the Pantone Color Institute have created an official shade for the late legend.

Love Symbol #2 is based off the shade of his Yahama piano, and will be featured on official Prince merchandise to be rolled out over the coming years.

“The colour purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be,” said Troy Carter, who was recently tapped to oversee Prince’s estate. “This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever.”

Laurie Pressman, VP at Pantone, adds: “We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘The Purple One.’

“A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”
