Whether it’s Led Zeppelin supposedly back-masking lyrics about worshipping Satan, or The Beatles subtly hinting that old Paul is in fact six feet under, bands have often been adept at sneaking clever hints into and around their music – or, at least, audiences are desperate to look for clues regardless.

Queens of the Stone Age, however, managed to very sneakily hide the title of their next album from fans for months, despite putting the name ‘Villains‘ right where it would get the most scrutiny of all.

When the band took to social media in April to post a mysterious image that said, simply, “TWENTYFIVE”, many took this to either be a hint about the upcoming record, or its actual title, but in the end it simply referred to the August 25 release date. Or did it?

As the band and their artist Boneface have now revealed, the name was hidden in that first hint all along, with the seemingly shattered fragments of letters actually revealing a new word when you examine them closely.

Seems obvious in hindsight, huh?

Okay, this might have been almost impossible for anyone to spot without a hint, but now that we see it, we can’t unsee it. Well done QOTSA, well done.
