We were already getting creepy, experimental vibes from the many teasers Queens of the Stone Age have been letting out of the bag recently, but a new video clip gives us a much more in-depth look at what’s going on with the album.

Featuring plenty of string-based music (of a sort), it’s potentially an intro or interlude taken from the new record, with Josh looking as if he’s just about to launch into song at the very end. Meanwhile, we’re met with black and white footage of the band in the studio, and the haunted, broken refrain of “gold… mine”.

Whatever’s happening here, it’s our best look yet at the themes we can expect to h ear when the record drops, and we wouldn’t be shocked to hear that odd refrain blasting from the stage when QOTSA make their way to Australia for the sold-out Splendour and a small run of sideshows.

Until then, check out the new sounds below, and see what you can uncover on their just-updated interactive site.
