While we’re all ridiculously stoked to see QOTSA atop this year’s Splendour in the Grass lineup, the big question now is when we’ll be able to hear their next album, and it seems that the answer is “pretty soon”.

We’ve been hearing bits and pieces about the next record for some time, most recently in these cryptic glimpses into the studio posted several weeks back, and now it seems that the album is finally in the can according to an interview with singer-songwriter and former QOTSA collaborator Mark Lanegan and actor Dean Delray.

As Ultimate Guitar reports, Lanegan was speaking to actor/comedian Dean Delray on his ‘Let There Be Talk‘ podcast when he was asked if he was going to appear on the new album.

“Did you sing on the new Queens at all or no?” Delray asks, and Lanegan replied “I did not.” Delray then followed up with the revealing comment: “Have you heard it? I know they just finished, I’m dying to hear it.”

Ultimate Guitar notes that Delray has had long-standing contact with the band, and has featured several members on his podcast, so it wouldn’t be at all out of the question for him to have a bit of insider info.

With QOTSA’s Splendour in the Grass headline slot (and possible sideshows) looming on the horizon this July, the timing couldn’t be better, and we’ll most likely hear at least a few new cuts among the old classics.

For now, the band’s only problem is keeping Josh out of legal trouble after an allegedly nasty incident with an autograph collector.
