The presale tickets may have sold out almost instantly this morning, but if you miss out on tickets to QOTSA’s upcoming Splendour sideshows in July, you’ll at least be able to hear some new music to soothe the burn a little (or just make it worse) – and there might be more dates on the way for the cities that missed out.

As news.com.au reports, vocalist Josh Homme has let slip that they’ll have a new single out just in time for the tour, making Australia the first country to hear their new album tracks live – a deliberate decision, considering Homme is married to an Aussie.

“We are going to cut loose when we come to Australia,” Homme said, before going on to explain why he skipped out on half of the country in favour of Melbourne, Sydney, and the surprise inclusion of Darwin.

“It’s not a coincidence we are going there first and not a coincidence that we are not playing all of Australia,” he explained. “I want to be able to come back.”

While that may not satisfy fans from other cities just yet, it leaves the door wide open for some eventual dates, perhaps at the tail end of their tour. Meanwhile, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that his recent surgery on his hand seems to be going a lot more smoothly than his last one.

“We have been hitting it hard when it comes to my body and it’s always ‘We will deal with you later’,” he said. “I had surgery on my wrist once before and four days later, I was on tour in Australia. My doctor called me a dips**t.”

While he was able to make it through each and every solo, there were some even more serious issues that stemmed from the neglect.

“I had a problem with my tendon, it was very difficult for me to flip the bird for a while.”
