The Mood Blues’ founding flautist and singer, Ray Thomas has passed away aged 76. His death has been confirmed by the band’s labels Cherry Red Records and Esoteric Recordings, stating he passed away in his home in Surrey on January 4.

“We are deeply shocked by his passing and will miss his warmth, humour, and kindness,” the labels wrote in a statement. “It was a privilege to have known and worked with him and our thoughts are with his family and his wife Lee at this sad time.”

It was revealed in 2014 that Thomas had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

The Moody Blues are set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in April 2018 alongside the likes of Nina Simone, The Cars, Bon Jovi and Dire Straits.

Tributes for the enduring musician have poured out via social media, with fans taking to Twitter to reflect on the legacy he built alongside his Moody Blues bandmates.
