Since Red Ink’s first single ‘Audrey’ burst onto the airwaves, MTV and Channel [V] barely three years ago their ascension has been rapid. Blitzing stages locally at Pyramid Rock Festival, Stereosonic, Playground Weekender and internationally at The Great Escape and Liverpool’s Sound City. As well as sharing the stage with Biffy Clyro, Miami Horror and British India, Red Ink have perfected a raucously compelling live show.

Their newly released EP, The Colour Age, produced by Craig Harnath and Jez Giddings of HotHouse Studios (Wilco, Cut Copy, Oasis, Midnight Juggernauts, Franz Ferdinand) breaks from the cathartic, intense pop of their celebrated debut – while still riveting, with a hard-earned wisdom and swagger, there’s a considered dreaminess streaming through their fervour.

Red Ink’s drum-tight sound is now broad-stroked with vulnerability and hope. Created between a bicycle shop and a beach house on a peninsula coastline, The Colour Age breathes inherently Australian loneliness and space – the sound of being surrounded by far-off horizons, newfound clarity and tightly held promise.

The Colour Age’s opening track ‘Empty Town’ marks the second single from this latest offering and is accompanied by their own DIY video shot in Brighton, England during their UK tour earlier this year. A stand out track in anyone’s book, ‘Empty Town’s’ catchy chorus and infectious harmonies will have you hooked from the very first listen.

“very true – what goes up, must come down. Nice tune this – strong vocals that aren’t too in ya face and top musicianship” Rosie Beaton, triple j
“Empty Town is a grand opener” 59th Sound
“Empty Town is the best song we’ve heard this year” Tone Deaf

Years of national touring have added a worldliness and depth to Red Ink’s sonic landscape; the thrilling response from UK club and festival punters on the band’s first UK tour in May 2012 confirmed what fans and media at home have been shouting from rooftops: that Red Ink, as The AU Review note, are proving “Australian independent music is the best in the world.”
