Only recently we shared the sad news that Red Symons had been hospitalised following a fall on July 5th. Now, it has been reported that the Aussie music legend had suffered from a ‘significant brain injury’, but is on the mend.

As ABC Radio’s John Faine reported this morning, the 68-year-old musician, TV personality, and radio host was walking home from the supermarket when he fell, hitting his head “very hard” on the pavement below.

Faine said that he spent with some brief time with Symons, who is now doing well. “He’s working at coming back as soon as he can,” Faine said. “The bottom line is he’s had a significant injury to his brain.

“He felt a bit unsteady, stopped, put his hand out to hold onto the building as he wobbled and fell backwards because it was a hill,” Faine continued. “Because he fell backwards, he hit the back of his head very hard on the pavement.”

Faine said that due to his time off, Symons is “bored out of his brain”, but had not lost any function at all. “One of the ways to deal with it is to go very, very slowly. Not to rush it,” Faine said. “If you want to make a partial recovery, yes, you can rush it, and then you miss out on the full recovery.”

Symons, who was the lead guitarist of Melbourne band Skyhooks, a cast member of Hey Hey It’s Saturday, and is now a breakfast presenter on ABC Radio, is expected to make a full recovery, and we can only hope that it’s sooner rather than later.
