Sydney six piece Winter People, have just released their dreamy new album A Year At Sea. Comprising of two violin players and five vocalists, Winter People have a unique folk choir sound unlike any other.

With the current success of their single ‘Gallons’, the album seems to follow suit in being equally impressive.

Listening to the album, it is clear to see why the band has been compared to the likes of The National and The Jezabels. Although their sound has some evidence of these influences, they definitely have their own individual sound.

Mellow and charming is the track named “Winter Coat”. It showcases the warm and masculine voice of lead singer and brain child, Dylan Baskind. With such beautiful guitar backings and melancholy lyrics, the track is emotionally moving and yet surprisingly, feels uplifting at the same time.

Their already well received track ‘Gallons’ is the standout piece of music on the album, full of powerful drumming beats and deep vocals. The track is not the typical ‘indie’ sound, it comes across as somewhat of an energetic indie-folk hybrid sound.

The album flows into places of dark mystery with gloomy lyrics, and back into reality with its banging backings created from a variety of instrumental rhythms.

A Year At Sea is an understated gem of musical creativity that is sure to be well received by lovers of quality music.
