Russell Brand is no stranger to doing things his own way, and in fact, his checkered past may hide many crazy, unexpected little events that your average person would have no clue about. In fact, Brand has given us a little bit of a peek into his past by admitting he once auditioned to be in the boyband 5ive… while heavily inebriated.

While having a chat with James Corden as a guest on Corden’s Late Late Show, Brand admitted to have auditioning for the English boyband back in the day.

“As a young man, I made many mistakes,” Brand began. “During one of my frenzies, brought on by the methamphetamine, I thought perhaps I’d do rather well in the boyband 5ive. So I went along, auditioned for it, and as you can tell, they did not accept me in the band.”

When pressed for more information as to what transpired in the audition by Corden, Brand admitted that he made the mistake of turning up drunk (with beer in hand), before giving Extreme’s ‘More Than Words’ a crack.

“It was a pitiful experience, the people were looking, they were staring down at the table in disbelief and great disappointment by the time I left.” Corden and Brand did joke however that Brand’s attitude and behaviour would have made him a perfect candidate for the ‘maverick’, or the ‘bad boy’ of the group. Either way, we can certainly say that seeing Russell Brand in a boyband would’ve been one experience we’d not soon forget.
