If history has taught us anything, it’s that you really don’t want to mess with Ryan Adams on Twitter. The outspoken alt-country superstar has taken on almost everyone, from alt-rock darlings The Strokes, to everyday music photographers, seemingly coming out on top in every instance. Now, there’s a pretty wild Twitter fight happening between Adams and the indie-folk troubadour Father John Misty, and it’s going exactly as you’d expect.

As Consequence Of Sound reports, Ryan Adams took to Twitter to protest Father John Misty’s upcoming performance at Texas’ Austin City Limits festival. “It’s so wonderful you booked the most self-important asshole on Earth to ‘break it all down for us’ while he does his Nick Cave impression,” he began in a series of now-deleted Tweets.

Adams went on to refer to Father John Misty (real name Josh Tillman) as “Elton Josh”, and “Sir Fuckhead”, stating that Father John Misty “sounds like shit Elton John but if he was just sitting in a corner staring at his hands on LSD.”

Soon after though, Ryan Adams seemed to have had a change of heart, deleting the Tweets and issuing an apology by way of Instagram. “‪I’m human & I have bad days. It happens. I apologize,” he began. “‪I took a deep breath & remembered I can always do better‬. As a human I am never going to be done working towards being more compassionate, peaceful and open.”

So I leave this here as a reminder,” he continued. “I am very tired but it’s no excuse to be cruel to others, even if they have shown me that same meanness. It is better to love. With Love, ‪Forgiveness & Peace‬ & Magic‬ XO.”

Now, Father John Misty has (sort of) responded, by way of a video that he posted to Facebook. In the video, Father John Misty can be heard saying, somewhat incredulously “Ryan Adams just called me the most important asshole on Earth,” before being corrected that Adams actually called him “the most self-important asshole on Earth.” Check out the short video below.

We’re now waiting to see what Ryan Adams has to say about Father John Misty’s response, but given his apology on Instagram, we’re not sure if he’s going to take the typically sassy approach, or take the respectable high road on this one. Only time will tell how this small feud will continue to unfold.
