Everyone’s favourite hardcore trio are still going strong.

With more than 15 years in the biz behind them, their brand new release, My Shame Is True is a punchy and energetic 40 minutes of melancholic punk frivolity.

Their latest offering is a throwback to classic Alkaline Trio. The catchy yet often dark lyrics – as we’ve come to expect from the punk veterans – and melodies will wind their way into your memory after just one listen.

Opening track, ‘She Lied To The FBI’ starts off with a bang, bursting onto your speakers with vigorous drums and guitar and Matt Skiba’s rhetoric, “She lied, she lied to the FBI”. The upbeat track launches you into the Illinois natives arena and doesn’t slow down.

The toe-tapping, name-dropping single ‘I Wanna Be A Warhol’ and the moody ‘I’m Only Here To Disappoint’ follow on with much of the same determination, the latter boasting heavy-hearted lyrics such as, “Distorted is my silhouette / Tainted starved and desperate” whilst still managing to keep the listener feeling optimistic thanks to Skiba’s laid-back vocals set to the fast paced punchy rock.

Other standouts include the aptly named ‘I, Pessimist’ and the catchy ‘The Torture Doctor’.

My Shame Is True is said to be Skiba’s love letter to his ex-girlfriend and there’s certainly lots of broken hearts and shameless self-pity evident in his lyrics, yet part of that indulgence is what makes this record so damn appealing.
