Since the release of their promising indie-electro debut Charade last year, four-piece Otious have been toiling away in the Melbourne scene, honing their craft playing with everyone from Peking Duk to BadBadNotGood as they built towards their follow-up release.

Now, their new track ‘My Love’ is here, and it’s a perfect step forward for the band as they double-down on the thoughtful storytelling and smooth, Nick Murphy-esque tones that made EP tracks like ‘All I Know’ a standout.

A lush, slow-burning jam, ‘My Love’ throws into sharp focus everything that seemed so promising on that first release – namely slick, effortless vocal interplay and a textured groove you can just sink right into – while stepping things up on the lyrical front.

“It’s definitely inspired by the general feeling of a relationship at its end,” the band say, “but where you’re constantly turning over that indecision in your mind. The lyrics in ‘My Love’ tend to contradict one another, which is something you do in the face of dull familiarity and indecision.

“We wanted to capture that moment of time where the only thing you can do is overthink.”

No need to overthink this one though – it’s our Single of the Week.
