There is just one week to go until you’ll be able to wrap your ears around The Smith Street Band’s fourth studio album More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me.

Until then, the band have today released a seven minute making-of video, which takes fans inside the process of recording the album in a spacious beachfront house, where they also lived for the duration of the recording.

Much like with their 2013 EP Don’t Fuck With Our Dreams, the band tracked the songs live to tape, which they describe as stressful (after all, everyone has to nail their part or the take is useless) but ultimately beneficial to the album’s sound: “It feels like you’re playing music, not piecing together a jigsaw.”

Wil Wagner describes the new batch of songs as “the most honest I’ve been about my own mental health”, which jives with the confessional nature of previous Smith Street material. Wagner is one of the finest lyricists this country has produced, so hearing him tackle even deeper themes will be quite an experience.

Check out the making-of video below to get you pumped for the release of More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me next Friday, April 7.
