We’re looking back a little for this week’s highlight track, with a cut from U.S. rapper NF taken from his second studio album, which dropped late last year.

The album’s title track, ‘Therapy Session’ is a raw expression of emotion, sometimes reaching Eminem levels of ferocity and honesty. Having released his second album only a year after his first (and another record under his given name Nathan Feuerstein before that), NF clearly has a lot to get off his chest, and is wasting absolutely no time doing it, spitting with an unrelenting urgency.

What might not be immediately apparent on first listen is NF’s label as a ‘Christian rapper’, with his faith informing his music without defining it entirely. He’s picked up plenty of recognition in the Christian music community however, with Therapy Session winning the Dove Award for best hip hop/rap album from the Gospel Music Association.

He only touches on his faith briefly (I ain’t gon’ walk on these stages in front of these people / and act like I live my life perfectly / that doesn’t work for me / ‘Christian’ is not the definition of a perfect me), weaving it in deftly as part of his own confessional, and proving that religion doesn’t have to mean music with soft edges.
