“Beastie Boys meets Andrew W.K. meets Dirty Sanchez” is how lead vocalist Sean Smith describes The Blackout’s new record Start The Party.

This being their fourth studio album, it is definitely one of their strongest and boldest to date and will not disappoint.

The LP is filled with Sean and Gavin Butler’s golden vocals and killer riffs, perfectly capturing the bands party-hard attitude.

A record all about escapism, enjoying yourself and getting on with life, the title track instantly captures this mood with the classic pop-punk Blackout sound.

Full of non-stop, high-energy tracks, it is perfect for switching off from life for a half hour, and is sure to make for a mind-blowing live set at the band’s upcoming time slot at Soundwave.

The one slower track on the album ‘You’ may be its only weakness and was obviously inserted to add some balance to the record

Though not a total bomb, hearing those raw vocals at a slower pace takes some getting use to. Still,  it’s a lovely, heart-felt song that no girl would object having sung to her.

The boys really did say it best on their standout track ‘Start the Party’ when they scream “we’re still the best in town“.
