The Angels are back featuring new drummer Nick Norton and – most notably – new lead singer Dave Gleeson from The Screaming Jets, a band that were very much spiritual children to The Angels.

Their latest offering, Take It To The Streets marks something of a new beginning for the band.

Kicking off with the rocking title track, Gleeson proves to be a great fit for the big shoes left by former lead singer, Doc Neeson.

While not having the same edgy, borderline psychotic vocal style and musical personality, Gleeson brings quite a laid back and soulful vibe to the picture.

Musically, Take It To The Streets is a step back to the blues rock that first inspired the band in its heyday. With solid tracks like “Telephone”, “No Sleep In Hell”, “Small Price” and an impressive cover of the Elvis Costello track, “Pump It Up”, The Angels sound the most laidback and comfortable they have in years.

Touring live soon, it will be an intriguing prospect to see how Gleeson shapes up on the band’s classic back catalogue on the road.

Regardless, this is a solid and accomplished release and strong step forward for a band entering their fourth decade.
