Good news for Australian music festival fans who like they’re bands a little left-of-centre.
Mess + Noise reports that Skydreams – an emerging Sydney-based blog – is launching a brand new single-day music festival showcasing many of the city’s local bands, along with a range of unique activities.
Topping the bill are ex-Gerling member DARREN CROSS and REGULAR JOHN (who’s track ‘Slume’ we recently featured on our Mixtape), they’ll be joined by some of the blog’s favourite local acts including THE HOLY SOUL, DEAD CHINA DOLL, WHIPPED CREAM CHARGERS, EAST RIVER, THROUGH THE FOREST DOOR and many more.
Skydreams was created earlier this year as a site where “people contribute bits and pieces of writing, videos, music, drawings and photos… we’re obviously not set-up to make money or anything, it’s more about people publishing whatever they want.” Adding that they hope to present “something a little less manic and socially corrosive than social media sites.”
Their inaugural festival will feature more than just music, promising record stands, vintage fashion from *ahem* “Sophie’s Sartorial Sexplosion”, an adult-sized jumping castle and “mystery food” (unbooked or a Halloween style guess-and-taste set-up? We can’t be sure).
Skydreams‘ own radio team, The Ben and Nick Radio Show, will also be live on-site to open the festival, while Daniel Corboy from Reckless Vagina (another band on the bill) will act as a roving reporter throughout the day.
Tickets to the event are on sale now, and are strictly limited considering the site, Hermann’s Bar “isn’t the biggest venue” according to the blog, you can check out a mixtape of the band’s (to be fair, obscure) lineup below:
