Slim Jim Phantom continues to inspire and excite audiences worldwide; with a sound, style and image that remains as fresh today as it ever was, Phantom has cemented his place among rock royalty.

Considered by many as the coolest drummer in rock n roll, Phantom’s influence is still clearly felt on today’s music scene with countless rockabilly drummers imitating his pioneering stand-up style.

Who better to introduce us to the world of rockabilly than an actual rockabilly legend? So without further ado we present the ‘5 Step Guide To Rockabilly’ with Slim Jim Phantom.

Band Everyone Should Listen To

“Stray Cats –  with them I’ve had all clichéd rock excess experiences – a few helicopter journeys – a few crazed dressing room scenes. Our best record is Blast Off (1989), I think we had learned enough about the studio and made a more relaxed record that was fun to make with out a lot of pressure – Bring it back again, Gina and title track are three of our best songs”

Album Everyone Should Own

“Gene Vincent And His Blue Caps’ second album -Gene Vincent and His Blue Caps (1957). Every song keeps on coming, this is the template for rock and roll album – it swings, it rocks and it croons – this one record has it all”

Song Everyone Should Know

‘Blue Moon Of Kentucky’ by Elvis Presley, it’s second side the king ever cut. You can hear the country and the blues and the rhythm and blues all crashing together to form rockabilly.

Best Live Act

“Stray Cats by a mile – there are three front men each of whom are very entertaining visually and musically – there’s also a lot of history by now, too”

Favourite Upcoming Act

“Imelda May Higham: super hot irish rock and roll momma who sings as good as anyone and her band is armed and dangerous with her husband, my pal, rockabilly guitar ace, Darrel Higham.”
