Over the last 10 years, Boogie has grown to become one of Australia’s most loved boutique music festivals. Now, organisers are inviting fans to come celebrate a decade at the treasured Bruzzy’s Farm this coming weekend for Boogie 10.

You certainly won’t be wanting for entertainment, with a stacked music lineup topped by international headliner Jason Isbell, who’ll be joined by Endless Boogie, Spiral Stairs, Henry Wagons, Bad//Dreems, Even, Los Chicos, The Meanies, Immigrant Union, and more.

“Wow! Boogie 10. Shaking it Loose Together for a decade,” write organisers. “Let’s quickly take it back. Some ten years ago, Boogie was born. It was a beautiful dream – a transcendent moment of kaftans, of cocktails, easy times and most definitely good tunes.”

Now ten years have flown by, we’ve grown a little and so has Boogie but all the goodness we’ve come to know and love just keeps on rollin’. We’ve handpicked a swag of glorious bands to mark our tenth trip round the sun… that you’re definitely gonna dig.”

“We have a stack of Melbourne bands. The good people of Rock City have supported us from the start, and the feeling’s mutual. This is gonna be very special!”

To celebrate the special times that have been and the special times to come, the infamous ‘Boogie 4’ have gotten together to relay their favourite Boogie moments from the past nine years.

Boogie 3: the Coming of Age

When we really came of age. Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dan Auerbach and a morning set by Hacienda established the musical trend of the festival forever.

No EDM, no funk, no hip hop, well on stage, anyway. Nothing personal, we just like guitars. Punters and us, couldn’t quite believe the musical greatness we were witnessing with 323 of our new closest, and lifelong, friends.

Smoke Machine

Dave Last and his band of merry men rock and rollingly ripped Sunday a new asshole with a performance channeling Iggy, Elvis, Morrison, Lux Interior, Bono and your mother playing covers including Born To Run that can never be heard again the same way. Had to be seen to be believed, and wont be seen again.

Boogie FM

The two annoying non DJs who rabble on about absolutely nothing and everything, and everyone on site, out of site and in their sight. A magical tool with a solid state voice coming from the trees that both welcomes Boogie people to site, tells them everything they don’t need to know, and make you feel so ordinary on Monday morning, you actually want to live the best place on earth. They also have a couple of good gags… well maybe two at most.

The Arrival Of The Stick People

Late night party vibes bring good times at the other stage at Boogie. Rad dancing and general hoopla prevails. Normal stuff, until two years back this tribe appears in the trees dancing and waving large sticks in the lights used to make the area look weird already, and the stock people grow in number, and they keep growing. En masse they are stick people. We do not know where they came from, or where they go to. Delivered by the Kronic always, forever.

Lesbian Mexican Wrestling Acid Yoga

Acid Yoga has been a constant since Boogie 1. Miss Jade, Molly Jean Morrison and Roller Girl generally turn it inside out for a good morning stretch to a tabla tune and something psychedelic.

A few years back, things got super sexy though. There was a Mexican wrestling vibe going on, they appeared to be getting it on, there was love, lust and excitement in the air. People were gasping for air at the beautiful stretched sights before them. What are they doing? Are they really? Yes, they are!

Boxwars

Since Boogie 2, these cardboard kings have been regulars. They have dished up major extravaganzas with such intricate detail. Major works, loads of crew, massive battles for justice in the Visy world. But at Boogie 2, it was just the 2 originals.

They pulled out a fully functioning 2 deck DJ turntable system, complete with cardboard headphones, leads, everything. If that wasn’t mind blowing enough, when Bog Log III took to the small stage they opened up their cardboard guitar cases, pulled put their cardboard instruments and rocked along with the great man.

The Outpost

Only a handful will be aware there was a fully functioning speakeasy site up the top of the hill. Encased by sticks and foliage it was like a Lord Of The Flies grown up parliament. After choosing from a fine selection of whiskeys or tequila, one could take the stand and speak their mind, or recite whatever took their fancy. Like a Melbourne back lane speakeasy on top of Boogie Hill.

Shintaro’s Teppanyaki and Haircuts

The first two Boogies were an all inclusive ticket. Everyone ate together, all food, drinks and sleeping arrangements were part of the ticket price. Songs great right? Some bits were. Some, well?

At Boogie 1, the promise of Shintaroąs incredible Japanese feast had us all frothing after a heavy afternoon of cocktails, beers and whatever else was being passed around. The smells coming from the food tent were incredible. We could see the prawns, almost taste the Japanese seafood pancakes.

7:30pm seems like a reasonable time for the 43 of us to start looking to line our guts, but little did we know that Shintaro took at least an hour to turn one, yes one, yaktori stick or dip some tempura.

But 9:30pm we were all going mad with hunger. At around 10:30 we ate. I don’t think we had time to check if the taste was as good as it all looked. To make up for the wait Shintaro was offering free haircuts for dessert. A number of new styles were born that night.

Don Walker and The Suave Fucks

Maybe Boogie 6 or 7, the man Don Walker took to Boogie stage. Yeah, people knew who he was, but no one was prepared for the mesmerising set that he delivered. Old and young folk alike were gobsmacked at the power of this dark, yet gentle man delivering Australian rock and roll wordsmanship in his unique style.

Boogie Full Moon Eclipse With Pond

Boogie 8 saw Perth’s scallywags take to the stage on Boogie Saturday, always the night of a full moon. There was some kind of eclipse going on, and when they started a full, red moon rose over Boogie Hill and the place went crazy. The band wasn’t so well known at that stage, but their driving, psych set won them a huge world of new fans and melted many minds.
