Irish hard rockers Thin Lizzy announced over the weekend that they have been forced to cancel all but one of their upcoming headlining tour dates in Australia. Only the show at Melbourne’s Billboard The Venue will be taking place.

Despite these cancellations, Thin Lizzy have assured fans that they will still be taking part in KISS  and Motley Crue’s monster seven date stadium tour around the country.

The fiery Dublin band, led by the incomparable Phil Lynott, influenced generations of musicians with classic tracks such as ‘Jailbreak’, ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’, and ‘Don’t Believe A Word’. Twenty six years have passed since Lynott’s untimely death, but the amazing body of work that is Thin Lizzy still retains all of its vibrancy.

Along with Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Darren Wharton, the additions of vocalist Ricky Warwick, guitarist Damon Johnson and Bass player Marco Mendoza, Thin Lizzy have been re-introducing their music to a whole new generation of fans to overwhelming success and now it’s Australia’s turn.

The statement published on the band’s Facebook page read:

Due to circumstances way beyond the band’s control it is with deep regret that we announce the cancellation of the following headline appearances on the forthcoming Australia tour:

March 2, 2013: Selina’s Coogee Bay Hotel- Sydney, Australia
March 8, 2013: Evan Theatre- Penrith, Australia
March 13, 2013: Gold Coast Coolangatta Hotel- Coolangatta, Australia
March 15, 2013: The Venue- Townsville, Australia
March 17, 2013: Brothers Leagues Hotel- Cairns, Australia

All shows announced with Kiss & Motley Crue will take place along with the Headline show at Melbourne Billboard on March 4th.

Lead guitarist Scott Dorham recently divulged that the band member’s focus hasn’t necessarily lied with Thin Lizzy in recent times, with his new musical project with Ricky Warwick frontman of The Almighty, The Black Star Riders taking precedence.

“We are taking a break from Thin Lizzy,” he told Noise11. “The Black Star Riders is not just a side-project. It is a well and true and proper band. We’ll still go out as Thin Lizzy. There are still certain big festivals that we will do. Thin Lizzy is still on the horizon, we will still go out and do that but in the meantime we have Black Star Riders that we are going to concentrate on also”.

For those who purchased tickets to Think Lizzy’s headlining tour dates, refunds are available from point of purchase.

You can still catch the six-piece performing as the opening act for KISS  and Motley Crue and tickets to their Melbourne show are still available.
