Sydney rock duo Polish Club have been kicking serious goals lately, from recently supporting  Courtney Barnett, Regurgitator, Gang of Youths, North East Party House and absolutely slaying a Bigsound they’ve topped all that by dropping their killer debut EP, out now.

Only coming to life this year, the two piece have quickly garnered a reputation for their ferocious sweat soaked live shows, a sound they’ve managed to encapsulate in this EP.

To celebrate the release of the EP, the guys have given us a track by track run down of the record, check it out below and if you like what you’re hearing pop by the band’s Facebook page for more info.

ABLE

“This is one of the first songs we ever recorded. The actual recording was intended to just be a demo just to see if we had the chops to be an actual band. Our mate Chris mixed it really well and we decided to keep it how it is for the EP. I think it was the one and only take we did of it.

We still have to save this for last at live shows because Novak’s voice just about gives up by the end. There’s only so much YEAHYEAHYEAHWHATIFIYEAHYEAH one can do.”

BEEPING

“This is our current single. It used to have a pseudo guitar solo as a chorus, but Novak eventually realised he’s not John Frusciante.”

DONT FUCK ME OVER

“Hopefully these lyrics sound more pleading rather than threatening. We went for a kind of doo-wop vibe with this track, especially the chorus.

We often try to write slower jams that don’t involve either of us either screaming or hitting drums as hard as possible, but it often ends up in an abrupt volume increase.”

FOREVER WHATEVER

“We wrote this song in the last minute of a really shit writing session. Sometimes good stuff comes right at the last minute when you think you have nothing more to give.”

ONLY CHILD

“When we came up with this song Novak named the demo recording shitsong.mp3. He changed his mind after listening back to it a few times and wrote lyrics based on JH’s life as a dude with no siblings.

Sometimes you just want to start a song as loud as you can. This track starts as it ends. It’s a sprint to the finish line when we play it live; it’s one of those ones we have to remind ourselves to not play at the speed of light in our set. But no matter what speed it always hurts, so if you see us play this song know that we are both probably in horrible pain.”

DID SOMEBODY TELL ME

“It is now impossible to separate this song from its recent NIDA- produced companion video clip. The NIDA team absolutely nailed it our stubbornly vague brief of “simple, fun and no story”. Whatever the hell the song was about before, it’s not about a charming lad dancing in a green screen acid trip of sharks with human teeth, shitty robots, and nudity.”
