Local legends Tigertown have announced their eagerly anticipated return to home soil and a string of headline dates this April to celebrate the release of their Lonely Cities EP, which they dropped this morning.
The band have spent the last 12 months writing and touring Stateside and it’s paid dividends, with the EP’s first single, ‘Bullet From The Gun’, nabbing a debut spin on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show. Produced by the critically acclaimed Tommy English (BØRNS, Ladyhawke, and Robert DeLonge), Lonely Cities is the final product of countless hours on the road and in the studio as well as an extensive writing period for the band.
In 2015, Tigertown were one of the most talked-about acts of SXSW, signing to Inertia Music, Neon Gold, and Atlantic Records, only to spend the rest of the year on a host of international touring and writing ventures. Lonely Cities
We wrote Lonely Cities about a friend of ours whose story moved us. It’s about being far away from the one you love, and how lonely the city feels with out them.
Make it Real
I think we have a fear about growing numb to things, and ‘Make it Real’ comes from that fear. Especially with the music we make, we want it to connect with people on the inside and this is a little anthem to remind ourselves.
Bullet From the Gun
Bullet From the Gun is about that one thing that drives you to do what you do. Sometimes you have to stand up to something to hold on to that original fire. You can hear how excited we were about all the beautiful old synths in the studio with this one.
These Hands
These Hands is the oldest song on the EP. I was working in a cafe at the time, and balancing touring and earning money was messing with my mind a bit. There was one night that I cracked when we were recording because my hands were so sore from making coffee that I couldn’t play guitar. It’s actually quite literal.
Always
We went up to the Blue Mountains in NSW to write some songs in an old Miner’s Cottage. We were listening to Peter Gabriel’s ‘So’ and were inspired to come up with a story of two people who run out into the woods separately to discover how much they want to be with each other.
